The Cambridge Economics and Finance Competition (CEFC) is a renowned international academic event jointly organized by two prominent finance societies at the University of Cambridge: CUFIS (Cambridge University Finance and Investment Society) and CamSIF (Cambridge Student Investment Fund).

Tailored specifically for high school students in Grades 9 to 12 across the globe, CEFC offers a unique platform for intellectually curious youth to delve into the fields of modern economics and finance, while also connecting with Cambridge’s prestigious academic network.

CEFC PATHWAY

The Cambridge Economics and Finance Competition consists of two main stages: the Qualifier Round and the Global Final. Top performers in the Qualifier Round may earn an invitation to compete in the Global Final, which is scheduled to take place at the University of Cambridge in early October 2025.

Qualifier Round

  • Date: June 12, 2025
  • Format: Online multiple-choice test (90 minutes)
  • Content: Covers five key areas – Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Financial Markets, Accounting, and Business Valuation.
  • Language: English

Global Final
The Global Final will be held in person at the University of Cambridge from October 1st to 6th, 2025. In this round, students will participate in three main components:

  • Academic Written Test: Advanced economics and finance knowledge, with a focus on the Cambridge approach.
  • Stock Pitch: Group work to analyze and value listed companies, followed by investment strategy presentations.
  • Portfolio Analysis: Evaluation of portfolio performance, risk assessment, and optimization proposals.

In addition to academic challenges, finalists will join the Oxbridge Application Guidance Workshop, where they will meet admissions officers from Cambridge and Oxford to gain valuable insights into university applications. They will also explore potential career paths in investment banking, asset management, and more through the Multinational Financial Practitioners Sharing Session.

Complementing the academic content, participants will immerse themselves in authentic Cambridge experiences, including debates by the River Cam, campus tours, and formal networking events, all designed to broaden their academic, practical, and global perspectives.

PARTICIPANTS

The Cambridge Economics and Finance Competition (CEFC) is specifically designed for high school students from Grade 9 to Grade 12 worldwide, particularly those who are passionate about economics and finance. While prior in-depth knowledge is not required, students who have studied or are currently enrolled in programs such as AP Economics, IB, A-Level, or Business Studies are highly encouraged to participate, as these curricula align closely with the competition content.

All participants will take the Qualifier Round individually and in English, while the Global Final will involve team-based challenges.

In the Qualifier Round, all participants will receive a certificate of participation issued by the CEFC organizing committee. High-achieving students will be recognized with prestigious awards, including:

  • Honor Award – Top 5% globally
  • Excellence Award – Top 15%
  • Distinction – Top 30%
  • Merit Award – Top 45%
  • Achievement Award – Top 60%
